A world of possibility

From presenting styling workshops, to judging the NKBA Awards, to visiting Denfair and other concept spaces in Melbourne, it’s been a busy couple of months here at homestyle. Although my role as editor does involve a lot of putting pen to paper and fingertips to keyboard, what I enjoy most about my work are the IRL experiences. Whether chatting to interior enthusiasts who are keen to pick up tips for their at-home projects, deliberating the merits of the best new kitchens and bathrooms with industry experts or discussing the latest directional furnishings with the designers themselves, face time is what keeps me excited about what’s going on in our little corner of the world.
So what’s hot in interiors, you ask? Well, at homestyle we’re actually not that fussed on trend-worshipping, because we believe our homes should be shaped not by what’s in fashion but by the way we want to live. That said, after scoping out projects near and far for our Kitchen & Bathroom special, one trend we noted and are happy to get behind is the concept of designing homes with bespoke solutions to enhance your everyday. Concealed storage that helps keep life’s necessities contained, made-to-measure ledges and recessed cavities for displaying treasured objects, and built-in seating that encourages conversation zones are just some of the clever ideas that have inspired us this issue.
I love the little aha moments that happen when I see the thought people have put into their homes and creative practices, and hope you enjoy our latest take on all things au courant just as much.
