Let’s renovate!

I’m often asked how we find the homes we feature in the magazine and where the ideas come from for our photoshoots. And it can be a difficult question to answer, as sometimes I’m not even sure myself just how our modest team pulls it all together each issue!
When we’re in full swing sourcing stories and producing concepts to share, inspiration can come from all over – our meetings with local designers, the restaurants we visit, films we watch and fashion we covet. Social media opens another door into the lives others lead, and New Zealand’s small size means we invariably find ourselves chatting to someone who knows someone with an eye for interiors or an innovative architectural project on the go. All of this becomes a moodboard of possibilities, and it’s my job to distil the contents and shape it around a common theme.
From the outset, we knew our February/March edition would have a renovation focus. Refreshed from the holidays and with the best of summer weather to work with, we can’t think of a better time to launch into those around-the-house projects.
Thinking a dedicated home office will help you channel your inner project-manager? We’ve done our research on how to style functional yet beautiful workspaces – take your pick on page 39. Looking to smarten up your storage situation? We’ve brought together a few of our favourite solutions in our ‘Buyer’s Guide’ on page 34. Or if you’re planning a complete overhaul, turn to page 69, where we bring you the juicy details from five recently renovated houses, with advice from the experts involved.
My 2017 home-inspiration file is already filling up fast – all I need now is to take action. As you read this issue, keep a pen and paper handy, so you can start compiling your own list of to-do’s and to-buys for the year ahead.
