THE DESIGN
This dramatic ensuite sets the tone for the master bedroom. It’s accessible only through the dressing room, so these spaces are designed to function as one luxe suite.
Timber-look tiles provide rich tones and grain changes that are replicated in the cabinetry, while pearl-coloured tiles create a fresh backdrop for the timber and blackened steel. A skylight in the centre of the space brings plenty of natural light, so the walls stay free of large windows and the tiles have maximum impact.
The ensuite’s layout allowed for a shower with twin rainheads and a double vanity. Inspiration was drawn from the custom-designed towel rails to add black steel detail to the round mirrors above the vanity. This circular form is repeated in the light fittings above the basins, and in the shower and dressing room handles. The lighting is both effective for tasks and accentuates the drama and detail. The timber tiles are lit from wall to wall to highlight the tonal and textural changes, and low-level lighting under the vanity offers soft ambient light at night.

THE DESIGN
This spacious ensuite in a 1900s home exudes elegance. The tessellated tile floor is a strong feature and is teamed with hand-glazed, brick-bond wall tiles to bring a graphic quality to the space. The bespoke freestanding vanity unit is modern but reminiscent of the bygone wash basin. Designed as piece of furniture, it provides personality, function and form. Power and storage are hidden behind mirrors with mitred steel frames.
The room’s hero feature is the spacious double shower with floor-to-ceiling glass in a black steel surround and custom tiled niches for bathing products. The heated towel rail was chosen to link with the home’s radiator system, and the lighting is pleasingly understated and practical.

THE DESIGN
Here, modern finishes, minimal fittings and fixtures, a freestanding bath and an enclosed walk-in shower zone create a sanctuary with an urban edge. The palette is tonal and calming. Texture and form are provided by mixed-format tiling, which includes timber-look tiles in a herringbone pattern that washes up the two end walls.
The custom-made vanity makes a bold statement on entry; ample storage is provided in the joinery unit and set behind the large mirror above. Careful attention to detail can be seen in the arrangement of fittings and fixtures, which aligns grout lines to elements such as the soap recess. The combination of natural finishes, layered forms, mitred and negative detail and tiling results in a sharp, uncluttered look.
