The Designory

Byron Bay, Australia

You don’t have to kick off your shoes at Byron’s The Barefoot Bay Cottage, but we bet you’ll want to. An easy stroll to the sand, with space for up to 10 guests and extras including a plunge pool and an outdoor bath, it’s luxurious yet has relaxation written all over it – and if you’re into cooking, well…
Devised by Sydney-based studio The Designory to encourage guests to put R&R at the top of their to-do list, the calm, light-filled interior of the three-bedroom home features a palette of white, sage green, grey and navy, and natural textures are layered throughout. Overlooking the lush tropical garden beyond the wraparound deck (complete with hanging chairs, bench seats, an outdoor dining table and a barbecue), the chef’s kitchen is part of a open-plan living and dining area that prioritises reconnection with family and friends.
Set up to cater for large gatherings, it’s fully equipped with seamlessly built-in Fisher & Paykel appliances, including a 100-litre pyrolytic oven with nine functions (from rotisserie to pastry bake), and a flush-fit induction cooktop that has five cooking zones – perfect when you’re catering to a hungry crowd.
The cottage is owned by The Designory principal Melissa Bonney and B2 Construction’s Brendon Bott, and when creating this escape, they really thought ahead. If you fall in love with the décor during your stay, you can shop the look in their online store The Design Hunter – everything from the dining chairs to the drawer pulls to the dishwashing liquid can be waiting on
your doorstep by the time you get home.
The Barefoot Bay Cottage is available to rent on Airbnb.
